Rachel Burnett, ND, LAc

Provider Image Bio:

Rachel A. Burnett earned her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College with a major in biology and a minor in neural and behavioral sciences. Her thesis research focus was on the pharmacology of the aging process. After graduation, she worked at the Eccles Institute of Human Genetics in Salt Lake City where she was an author of peer-reviewed publications related to aging and inflammation. This work led her toward the interest in practicing clinical medicine. Having always been interested in health maintenance and disease prevention, she embarked upon her journey into naturopathic medicine that she felt best suited her needs and fit into her paradigm of what health care is.

Dr. Rachel earned her doctorate in naturopathic medicine and master's of science in acupuncture at Bastyr University in Seattle, Washington where she was the award recipient for her academic and professional achievement as well as community service. She completed her Family and Integrated Medicine residency in Utah, certified by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education and sponsored by National College of Natural Medicine. She has since opened a private practice, Utah Natural Medicine, and is a nationally recognized, Utah-licensed and Board-Certified Naturopathic physician and acupuncturist.

Although Dr. Rachel is in general practice offering routine exams and medical evaluations for families, she guides many women and men through the aging process, using whole-person centered care and often using bio-identical hormone replacement. She has a specialized interest in hormone restoration, paying attention to maintaining optimal levels for the best therapeutic effects for the individual. She has an international patient base and speaks Spanish fluently.

As a naturopathic physician, she starts with interventions such as diet and lifestyle maintaining that safety is the most important part of practicing medicine. At times this means prescribing pharmaceuticals which she will do. She strongly believes in the cooperation between Western (conventional/allopathic and naturopathic) and Eastern (e.g. Traditional Chinese) medicine to best identify and treat the cause of disease with the underlying goal of reaching an individual's health care goals. Before starting her own private practice, she worked in different integrative settings with Family Practice MDs and continues to have strong alliances with allopathic medical specialists to provide the best and safest health care for her patients.

She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the Utah Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the Forever Health Network of Physicians. She has numerous certifications from continuing medical education conferences she attends regularly throughout the year, including those in Women's Health and Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. She stays current with the most up-to-date advances in medicine and enjoys combining evidence-based science with centuries-old medicine.

Aside from her medical practice and sincere pleasure in trying to help patients meet their health care goals, Dr. Rachel enjoys being with her family. As a native Utahn, she grew up skiing here and loves to be in the mountains. She enjoys doing identification of medicinal plants while on hikes. She may be spotted hunting for trilobites and other Utah fossils or gems in the summer. She particularly enjoys going on long strolls with her family, playing with her kids, and eating her husband's flavorful cuisine.
